Post 12: “The Return of Nellie”

From 12-Year-Old Anne’s Journal —

November 15, 1982  – GOOD

“Nellie comes back home for her birthday & Nancy is super jealous. Oh, Nelly is unbelieveably (sic) nice & so is Willie. Nancy runs away & Nellie finds her and they are friends.”

From Tracy —

Anne’s on vacation so I am hosting this barn dance this time. She’ll be back for the next post.

I have to say that I really did enjoy watching Nellie all the way through the series. And it was fun to see her grow up and deal with all of life’s challenges as a spoiled sociopath who somehow makes good. It was especially wonderful to see her become a blissed-out bottom to a small Jewish top. Who knew that all she needed was a firm hand of a man named Percival?

On the other hand Nancy was a whiny annoying disappointment with none of Nellie’s evil joie de vivre. I blame the script writers more than the actress. How many times can you type “You hate me!” in a script before you realize that maybe you should change it up a little? (And this was before computer cut and paste!)

The joy of this episode really comes from Nellie’s interaction with her parents. I loved the laughter they shared over their past and their failings. Also Nellie’s wig is so extreme it’s practically it’s own character. How did she become so white blond?

Agreed: the Nellie-Percival union is one of the least likely romances ever. I love how Percival takes none of Nellie’s bunk.

Hey, look what Nancy is up to these days:
